KL Children's Book Festival 27 Oct-2 Nov 2011

Illustration exhibition at the Gallery of the KL Library

Last hour before The Exhibition's closing day,
I should have taken picture of my drawings in this hall with all other participants for my personal collection. But with two toddlers running around and the thunderclaps banging outside the building, the only option was to run with the kids to our car in the parking lot before the thunderstorm gets uglier.

But then the experience of walking in the exhibition hall with my children, showing them the art works and let them find which one is mom's drawing... is priceless...:)

Happy 14th anniversary, love

To my Raw, my one and the only Raw..

If you must steal, then steal my heart, it's yours for the taking.
If you must lie, then lie beside me because I need you by my side.
And if you must cheat, then cheat death, because I cannot live without you.

Seven - Draw your days - day seven

My seven of seven 2011: Caca's drawing:)

Today is the last day of seven 2011.
we started from monday 7th and has finished on sunday 13th
Seven day..
So many ways..
But i can't run away..
I can't run away:)

http://youtu.be/920BnH5bRJk

Monday, I could wait till Tuesday
If I make up my mind
Wedn'sday would be fine
Thursday's on my mind
Friday'd give me time
Saturday could wait
But Sunday'd be too late
Do I have to tell a story
Of a thousand rainy days
Since we first met?
It's a big enough umbrella
But it's always me that ends up
Getting wet. Yeah, Yeah.

Seven - Draw your days - day two

My Seven day two

Seven - Draw your days

SEVEN: Draw Your Days! is an event to celebrate the anniversary of CAB*, so we do it each year on the same dates, always starts on November 7th. Our first event was in 2009, when we also launched our website. We also printed and exhibited a lot of participants’ drawings at Galeri Soemardja, FSRD ITB, while having a talk session. The result was indeed pleasantly surprising. The works that were produced day-by-day appeared in different media: drawings, comics, photographs, even collages and poems, which came not only from Indonesia but also from the United States and The Netherlands.
2010 brought similarly surprising results, and also coming from many parts of the world, including Kuwait and Malaysia. Friends who are spending most of their time typing and clicking admitted that they found relief upon returning to their pens and pencils. Friends who are used to creating fantasy and fictional stories found it a refreshing change to recreate their own, real experiences in drawings and graphics. Among the most interesting things is, although we knew that the same week can be entirely different for everyone, we didn’t really ‘realize’ it until we saw the reflections of it, as expressed by different individuals.

And this is my SEVEN day ONE:)

What a great news for me.. and let me share with the world.. hahahaha *happyhappyhappy*

Announcement: Winners of SCBWI Malaysia Day Contest - Telling Our Stories
Congratulations to the Winners :

  1. Evi Shelvia Rezasyah - Indonesian Evi submitted a one-page comic of her son learning new languages in Malaysia, in particular how to say ‘poo-poo’
  2. Teoh Choon Ean - Teoh’s proposal of eight stories tells of a boy called Leman who got transported back to the time when Hang Tuah and his friends were teenagers learning to be warriors. Leman persuaded Hang Tuah to come with him to the present time and they had many adventures together.
  3. Michelle Yap Yee Wei - Milly and Rose found a bat which had hurt its wings. They nursed it back to health but they had to take it back to its home in Gua Mulu.
  4. Quek Sue Yian - Malaysians love babies and they have many different ways to welcome babies like shaving their hair, having special ways to name babies, full moon celebrations and others.
  5. How Han Ming - Ming is at home eating ‘tang yuan’ which is eaten during the chinese winter solstice festival. He finds it irrelevant here in Malaysia but his mother reminds him to make a wish as he eats it. But Ming could only think of Shantini, the Indian girl at school…

"This is a story about multilingual society in Malaysia.
And again about my 5-years old son with so many languages he's got exposed in Malaysia. We came from Bandung, the capital city of West Java.
The natives of Bandung use Indonesian and Sundanese language in their daily conversation. We use english quite often at home, which gives our children the third language before we left for Malaysia. After the first few months of living in Malaysia, another few languages (basic Malaysian Malay, and very basic Mandarin and Jawi) have also been added to the children's language bank. It was later that I found out about my 5-years old son who has started to develop his 6th language ability, by the time I made this drawing of him:)"

I also submited this one:

"I am an Indonesian who has been living in Malaysia for 2 years.
Living in Malaysia and getting involved with the social life, especially with three young children has been a fun and exciting experience. However, some of the issues we have here are the culture and language. As both languages shared many synonyms as well as antonyms that make the conversation between and using these two languages creates many misunderstandings.
I'm a graphical diary kind of person. It allows me to record our daily life with the children in form of a pictorial diary. The following content pictures the diary of my 5-years old son talking his Malaysian friend, discussing about playing a Battle Tank game."

They're maybe not that pretty.. but owwhhh.. sooo irresistibly yummy

This morning is cloudy and windy, something's not everyday thing happen in Malaysia, but yet so nice to spend the saturday morning with it, with the open window to feel the weather.
And to make it even nicer, a homemade chewy brownies would make it perfect:)

I got the recipe from Jamie Oliver's website, but i skipped the dried cherry since i got none in my kitchen, adjust the ingredients a little here and there.  I wrote down the recipe on a scrap paper and sticked it on my kitchen's wall.. worth to try if you crave for brownies..:)
I,m thingking of sketching the illustration of "step by step how to make the brownies". It is so easy, you can even do it with closed eyes! :D

Kelir monthly September theme: Alien World

About this picture,
First: This is the picture i made for Kelir monthly September theme:
Alien World!
I could not think of any other ideas than to picture them as some green creatures that cute and naughty, literally by their looking and behaving :D
By the time my son saw this picture, he sang this song:
"We are going to the earth.. we are going to the earth... "
so voila! that song become the theme of this picture..  :)

Second:
I have a empty frame, which is very similar with one that already has a cute picture drew by my friend Eugeniagina. So i put this picture in that empty frame and put those two side by side.. perfect! they're happy to have each other as frame friends.. :p
Gina if you read this, there i just did my promise to you i made last year, to make this couple:)

Masking liquid

A few years ago --my goodness! i guess it was 5-6 years ago!--, i bought a bottle of masking liquid for water color, which i've never had a chance to try it, not until yesterday.
Well, i believe that there will come a day when we have to TRY the thing that we've never tried before:), like the day that i decide to USE my masking liquid, to improve my speed and technique on water color:)

aah... so fun to play with the masking! it's easy and speed up the process and most of all, the traces left behind are Georges

I made those items to apply a bid in a online company.
I hope it can help me to get hired:)

"Mang Karsa" , a bulletin comic strip

One day, a college friend contacted me asking if i can help him make a comic strip for his company bulletin. The content of comic story was about hot issues in our country and the character in this column was an average sundanese village man who is low-profile, humble, but yet funny and a bit religious, named MANG KARSA.

This one is the first issue of the comic, which was not published in the bulletin due to some technical problems.

Anyway, feel free to browse and enjoy.. :)

Because this comic comes in Sundanese language, here's a little translated summary of the plot:
MANG KARSA, with his best buddy SI BULEUD were discussing about current hot issue of a famous female Banking Executive who is convicted with charge of Bank fraud, doing a rather excessive breast implant to 'improve' her look. At the same time, a farm boy passes by with his Dairy Cow...bringing up a satire impression to the implant issue.

Serial Rama - Dipo Boneka Kayu

Rama is a five-series children storybook which is become one of milestones in my carrier, and above all one of milestones in my life. These are my first children illustrated books which I drew when I had to stay in bed during my not so well pregnancy with my daughter. It was a really fun, excited yet so dramatic moment making all those drawing, because after finished the third book, I delivered my baby and a week later continued drawing the forth and fifth books with a tiny baby in my lap.. :)

And, yes. It has became a milestone since I decided to continue what I've started, and make more children books. Yup! yup! yup!.. can not stop drawing cute figures up until now.. :)

One out of the five books of seri Rama.
Story of a little boy named Rama and his wooden toy soldier named Dipo.
All five series are:
RAMA dan DIPO Boneka Kayu
Ikut Ayah ke Kantor
Nonton Ondel-Ondel
Teman-Teman Istimewa
Merayakan Lebaran

These RAMA series are written by Cara Djalil, edited by Nikmah Sarjono, the one who offered me this job, I can't thank you enough, dear:) and published by Imaji Comic, Jakarta.
